Forrest at 3

I always plan to do a little post about what each of my children is like on their birthday. It doesn't always get written, but here I am with a little time and here are my thoughts on my sweet Forrest at 3...

Forrest is an easy-going, independent little boy. He has always been this way and I have loved this about him. The past few months have brought out a little bit of a willful side to Forrest that we have never seen in him before. I am hoping this is just a stage. :) He is still a sweetheart, and although he has his moments, he is a very loving little boy. He can be a bit shy, sometimes taking a little while to warm up to new people. He can also be overwhelmed in a crowd. His personality actually reminds me a little bit of myself. :) Although he can be quite independent at home during the day and thus not in need of much hugging or cuddling, he makes up for it at night. He always asks me to lie down with him as he goes to sleep. After giving a tight hug and a sweet kiss to his mama, he holds my hand and asks me to sing "Jesus Loves Me" to him. I love it!

Forrest loves toys, and he can sit and play for a long time on his own. He has really begun to enjoy "building toys" in the past year. His most favorite are the Trio blocks. Whether he has 5, 10, or 20, he can always find something to create with them. Sometimes he'll start with an airplane, then move blocks around to make a camera, then binoculars, then a gun, then a rocket ship. Today he built a fireman's hose (as he was pretending to be a fireman) and then later changed it to a walkie-talkie (he was calling someone on it, of course!). He is really so creative with them. Some other favorites are tinker toys, trains, airplanes, and Toy Story toys. He has recently been very into Peter Pan. (Be looking for birthday party and Disney world pics!) So dressing up in pirate gear or as Peter Pan is also something he is having a blast doing. He loves playing with figurines of his favorite characters - and talking with different voices as he moves them around. It really is so wonderful to have a child who can entertain himself so well - and have the best time doing it! He truly loves to play! He enjoys books and loves to be read to - often finding a book and wanting to sit in a lap to read. He has also learned to ride his tricycle well in the past couple of months. He is so proud to be able to ride right along the sidewalk with Andrew!

He and Andrew are big buds. They do almost everything together and are each other's favorites playmates... another wonderful blessing! Forrest is a sweet big brother and loves his Sissy, too!

I love seeing evidence of the Lord working in his heart. As he prays, he often remembers friends and family members. He has started learning the catechism this year and during family devotion and conversation he is recognizing and verbalizing Biblical truths. What a blessing to see the Lord working! Wilson and I pray that our boys will know the Lord as their Saviour early in life, and that they will be strong, bold leaders for the Lord wherever He has them - school, church... among friends and family. We often remember Isaiah 61:3 as we pray for my boys... "They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the LORD for the display of his splendor."

Our family is truly blessed by this sweet boy. Thank you, Lord, for Forrest!!

Sweet Moment with Sissy

Reading with Daddy. This was Daddy's favorite book when he was a little boy. Forrest is wearing his headband which is part of the pirate costume he has created for himself.

Opening presents! He wanted to open them all by himself this year.

Helping make cupcakes to take to school to celebrate his birthday.

Happy Birthday!!
